Why are we doing this?
Home to over 1,000,000 people, Tucson, AZ hosts a formidable task for starting a new church. Only 7% of Tucson residents attend a church of any kind and many established churches are eroding away like sand dunes in the desert wind. While churches grow merely biologically, the population continues to skyrocket at almost 30% per decade. With every year, Kingdom advancement in Tucson threatens to fall further behind. In a region full of church facilities, what we don’t need is more buildings to house “church people” on Sunday mornings. A culture that drives by church signs completely un-phased by what they are missing needs to see a Body of Christ that infiltrates their lives and offers life-lifting truth. Jesus commanded us to let our lights shine before men, assuming that when they saw it, they would glorify God.
As
a lightning bolt extends from heaven to earth to illuminate the
impressive silhouettes of the Catalina mountains and Saguaro cactus,
Epic Church intends to be light that doesn’t remain where it can’t be
seen— confidently and relevantly entering the world in which it has been placed to make Jesus compellingly visible.
